Privacy Policy
LocaCheck · Last updated: July 29, 2026
1. Introduction
LocaCheck ("we", "our", "us", or "the App") has two main features: (1) safety tools that help you assess the potential risk of unknown phone numbers, text messages, and web links; and (2) an optional location-sharing feature that lets you share your real-time location with family and friends you invite. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Please read it together with our Terms of Service.
Important — what this App is not. The safety-check tools in LocaCheck are informational only. They aggregate publicly available and community-reported data and do not provide "consumer reports" and are not a "consumer reporting agency" as defined by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). You may not use the App or any information it provides to make decisions about credit, employment, tenancy, insurance, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA. See Section 13 and our Terms of Service for details.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Lookup queries — the phone numbers, message text, or links you enter to check. We process these to return a risk assessment.
- Community reports — if you choose to report or label a number, message, or link (for example, tagging it as "spam" or "scam"), we collect the content of that report.
- Friends and connections — when you use location sharing, we collect the invite codes you generate or enter and the friend connections you create, so we can link the accounts that share with each other.
- Profile and contacts — a display name and optional photo you set, and any Safety Contact you choose to add.
- Support communications — information you send us by email or through in-app support.
- Subscription and purchase data — if you buy a subscription or one-time purchase, Apple processes your payment and shares with us your subscription status, product identifier, and transaction/receipt information. We do not receive or store your payment card number.
2.2 Location Data
- Precise location — when you turn on location sharing and grant permission, we collect your device's precise GPS location so it can be shared with the friends you have added.
- If you grant "Always" permission, location can be collected in the background so your friends can see your position even when the App is not open. If you grant "While Using the App", location is collected only while the App is open.
- Location sharing is off by default and only becomes active after you add a friend. You can pause or stop sharing at any time (see Section 4).
- Approximate location — separately, we may derive a coarse location from your IP address for regional formatting (e.g., country/carrier detection) and to comply with local law.
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and technical data — device model, operating system version, language, app version, and a resettable device identifier.
- Usage and diagnostics — features used, in-app events, crash logs, and performance data, used to improve stability and the service.
- Battery and status — if you use location sharing, limited status information (such as an on-the-move/offline status and battery level) may be shown to your friends as part of the sharing feature.
2.4 Data From Public and Third-Party Sources
To provide risk assessments, our service draws on data compiled from sources such as:
- Publicly available directories, carrier and number-range databases, and telecom metadata (e.g., country, carrier, line type).
- Reports and labels contributed by our user community.
- Reputable third-party anti-fraud and spam-intelligence providers.
We do not access your call log or SMS inbox, and we do not read or upload your address book. To add a friend you use an invite code; to add an optional Safety Contact you may use the system contact picker, which returns only the single contact you select. For the safety-check tools, we do not identify the individual owner of a personal phone number; results describe the number's risk reputation and metadata, not a person's identity.
3. What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect the contents of your calls or your SMS/messaging inbox.
- We do not read or upload your device address book.
- We do not require your real name or a government ID.
- We do not collect precise location unless you turn on location sharing and grant permission; you can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
- We do not knowingly collect personal data from children (see Section 12).
4. Location Sharing — How It Works
Location sharing is optional, consent-based, and mutual:
- It is off until you add a friend. To connect, one person generates a temporary invite code and shares it with someone they trust; the other person enters that code. Sharing becomes active only after both sides connect.
- Your precise location is shared only with friends you have added. It is never shared with strangers, and we never sell it or use it for advertising.
- You can pause sharing at any time — while paused, your friends cannot see your location.
- You can remove a friend at any time, which immediately stops sharing between both of you.
- Your location is transmitted to our servers solely to relay it in real time to the friends you have chosen.
5. How We Use Your Information
| Purpose | Data used |
| Share your real-time location with friends you invite | Precise location, friend connections, status/battery |
| Connect you with friends via invite codes | Invite codes, friend connections |
| Return a risk assessment for a number, message, or link | Lookup query, public and community data |
| Send a safety result to your Safety Contact (only when you choose) | Safety Contact details, the result you send |
| Maintain and improve accuracy of our risk database | Community reports, aggregated query patterns |
| Diagnose crashes and improve performance | Device and diagnostic data |
| Prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents | Technical and usage data |
| Comply with legal obligations | As required by applicable law |
6. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for location sharing (which involves precise location) and for any optional permissions; you can withdraw consent at any time by pausing sharing, removing friends, or turning off the permission in your device settings.
- Performance of a contract — to deliver the features you request.
- Legitimate interests — to maintain our risk database, secure the service, and prevent fraud, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where processing is required by law.
7. Subscriptions, Advertising, and Analytics
Subscriptions and purchases. LocaCheck offers optional paid plans that unlock premium features: auto-renewing subscriptions (billed weekly or yearly) and a one-time lifetime purchase. All payments are processed by Apple through your App Store account — we never receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with your subscription status, the product you purchased, and transaction/receipt information so we can unlock the corresponding features and validate your entitlement. Auto-renewing subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings at any time. Apple's handling of your payment data is subject to Apple's own privacy policy.
Advertising. LocaCheck contains no advertising. We do not use an advertising identifier and do not share data with any advertising network.
Analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics and crash-reporting tools only to understand feature usage and improve app stability. These tools process technical and usage data as described in Section 2.
8. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data or "share" it for advertising. We disclose data only as follows:
- Friends you invite — your real-time location and sharing status are shared with the friends you have added, and only with them. This happens entirely under your control, and you can pause or remove a friend at any time.
- Service providers — hosting, analytics, crash reporting, and anti-fraud vendors that process data on our behalf under contract.
- Legal and safety — where required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
9. Data Retention
- Location data is retained for 7 days and then automatically deleted. When you pause sharing or remove a friend, sharing stops immediately; when you turn off the location permission or uninstall the App, we stop collecting new location data.
- Friend connections and profile information are retained while your account is active, and are removed when you delete them or request deletion.
- Your on-device "recent checks" history is stored on your device and cleared when you clear it or uninstall the App.
- Aggregated and de-identified query data used to improve our risk database is retained for as long as it remains useful for that purpose.
- Community reports may be retained to maintain the integrity of the risk database.
- Diagnostic and log data is retained for a limited period, typically no longer than 24 months.
- Subscription and transaction records are retained while your account is active and afterward as needed to manage entitlements, process refunds, and meet tax, accounting, and other legal obligations.
10. International Data Transfers
We operate internationally, and your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) for cross-border transfers.
11. Your Privacy Rights
11.1 Everyone
- Turn location sharing on or off, pause it, or remove a friend at any time; revoke location permission in your device settings.
- Clear your on-device lookup history at any time.
- Contact us to ask questions about or request deletion of your data.
11.2 EEA / UK (GDPR)
- Access, rectification, and erasure of your personal data.

- Data portability.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
11.3 California (CCPA/CPRA)
- Right to know, access, and delete personal information.
- Right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell or share your personal data for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
11.4 Removing a number from our database
If you believe a phone number associated with you is labeled inaccurately, you may request review or removal by contacting us at locacheck@126.com. We will verify the request and act on it within the time required by applicable law.
To exercise any right, email us at locacheck@126.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
12. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, such as 16 in parts of the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children without verified parental consent. If a minor uses location sharing within a family, a parent or guardian is responsible for setting it up, is deemed to consent on the child's behalf, and can pause or stop sharing and remove connections at any time. If you believe a child has provided us data without such consent, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Accuracy and Nature of Results
Risk assessments are generated from public and user-reported data and automated analysis. They may be incomplete, out of date, or incorrect. A result is not a statement of fact about any person and must not be relied upon as the sole basis for any decision. LocaCheck is not a consumer reporting agency, and results may not be used for any FCRA-regulated purpose. Always use your own judgment.
14. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), to protect data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through an in-app notice or by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
